Bulletproof Vest Program
Rules and Guidelines for the Issue of Body Armor by the Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police
It is the goal and objective of the Fraternal Order of Police Alabama State Lodge to supply body armor to departments across the State of Alabama, at no cost to the departments, on a limited as needed basis.
As a part of the guidelines to be established by the State Lodge, the most immediate need would take precedence.
The following would apply to all departments that wish to take part in the program:
- All departments interested in the program will submit a formal written request to their local lodge or the Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police Lodge.
- This request will be detailed as to the number of officers in need of body armor.
- This offer will apply to departments that do not issue body armor to it’s officers because of non available funds.
- Once the local lodge or the State Lodge receives a request, a recommendation will be made to the urgency of this request
- Upon receipt of this request, the State President and Committee Chairman will decide how the request will be handled.
- Once a decision has been made, a letter of credit will be issued to the submitting agency for the number of body armor vest they will be entitled to receive.
- This letter of request will state the place where the vests can be fitted and purchased.
- It will be the responsibility of the requesting agency to set up appointments for their officers to be fitted for body armor.
- The requesting agency will then set their own guidelines as to how the body armor is issued and at what point it may be turned in by the officers that have control of the body armor. (In case the officer leaves his or her
employment with the requesting agency.)
- Once the body armor is issued to an agency, it becomes the property of the agency to use as they see fit.
- The Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police and all of it’s subordinate lodges assume no responsibility whatsoever for any injury arising from the use of body armor.
Be it further stated that there are no guarantees written or implied by the Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police and all of it’s subordinate lodges as to effectiveness of this body armor. Our only goal is to offer this to the departments that have a need to allow them to make their own rules.
- All requesting agencies will agree to hold the Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police and all of it’s subordinate lodges, free from harm for any lawsuits or any criminal proceedings that may arise from the use or none use of this body
armor supplied to them free and clear.
