| | | ALABAMA SPORTS FESTIVAL HONORING LAW ENFORCEMENT The Alabama Sports Festival opening ceremonies will be honoring all Alabama Career Law Enforcement Officers and support staff on Friday, June 20 at 7:00 pm at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center. If you have at least 10 years of service you qualify to receive a Medal of Distinction to be presented at the Sports Festival Opening Ceremony. You must register and be present to receive a medal. | | State Memorial for Fallen Officers The State Memorial will take place on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 11:00 am on the South lawn of the Capitol in Montgomery. We will be honoring five officers that were killed in the line of duty in 2007. Lodge #29 will host a cookout that evening. Please make plans to attend.
| | SAFETY ANALYSIS CONFERENCE JULY 22, 2008 UAH The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Public
Safety/Police, Huntsville, Alabama, is hosting the annual Law Enforcement
Officers Killed/Assaulted Safety Analysis Conference for 2008 provided by
the Criminal Justice Information Services Division of the Federal Bureau
of Investigation. The Conference will be held 22 July 2008, from 0800 to
1600. Registration will begin April 1, 2008 and there is no charge to
attendees. The conference objective is to reduce the number of officers
assaulted and killed by presenting information on the previous attacks,
based on the FBI LEOKA statistics and case study. Victim-officer and
offender demographics and behavioral characteristics are noted, as well as
additional data from case histories. The course content is presented by an
instructor, Lecture and discussion are supplemented by videos and handout
materials. This course is designed for experienced officers, trainers,
supervisors, managers, and others with a need for greater understanding of
the issues affecting officer safety. The point of contact for registration
