In 1915 two Pittsburgh police officers who were tired of long hours and poor working conditions decided to form a group to provide police officers with some form of representation. On May 14, 1915 those two officers along with 21 others met for the first time at the Fort Pitt Lodge #1. From those humble beginnings the Fraternal Order of Police has grown into the largest professional police organization in the United States with over  270,000 members and growing.!

The Alabama State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police was founded and continues to operate as a democratic organization. You, the members, through your elected officers and your local lodge meetings, direct the efforts of the FOP.

We have full time staff members, but there are no high paid "executives".  No other police association offers so much for so little. That is because you are the FOP. Your voice, and the voice of your fellow members, is the voice of the FOP.

That is our tradition, and our future
